Assignment: Write a 5-7 sentence paragraph describing one of your favorite characters from a book you've read this year either in class or from your independent reading.
There are many characters that I've enjoyed reading over the years, but my favorite character is Dallas Winston from S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders. He is one of my favorite characters because although he isn't the protagonist, he controls the direction of the story...on his terms. Dallas plays by his own rules and doesn't apologize for his behavior. In fact, it is rebellious attitude that makes Cherry Vallance secretly start to fall in love with him. Sadly, he is not able to persevere after his best friend Johnny dies and is ultimately shot down by the local police. Nonetheless, his spirit lives on with the other characters and their memories of him. Without Dallas Winston, The Outsiders would have just been another book and not the classic story every many people have come to love!

Out of all the characters in The Outsiders my favorite character is Johnny Cade.He was my favorite character because not only was he shy but he was very brave and caring.Johnny showed bravory when he ran into the burning church to save a whole bunch of kids that he didnt even know so that shows bravory and kindness.Sadly Johnny died of a 3 degree burn paralizing his body and he was only 16.In my opinion I think Johnny was a big impact in The Outsiders because without him Dally which is another character in The Outsiders would have never have someone to care about like he cared about Johnny.

My favorite character i enjoyed is Ponyboy Curtis in the Outsiders.He is my favorite character in the book because he is very brave when it comes to danger and sweet when he meets Cherry Valance.Ponyboy had showed he was brave when he had done adventures with his own best friend Johnny Cade.Also he had helped save some kids in the burning church with Dallas and Johnny.The sad part is he had to lose his best friend since he got burned.To me i think this book is very adventurous and has alot of courage.Ponyboy had a great life and had stayed gold even though the people he had was lost.

My favorite character out of all the books I read this school year is John from The Pigman by Paul Zindel. I like him because he is really funny and mischievous. The one thing that he did that I liked was when he put super glue in the phone lock so nobody can use it. He does crazy things and he never gets in trouble which is one thing I like about him. He also gets his way a lot. Without him, The Pigman wouldn't be an interesting book as it is.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say i've only read two books that really caught my attention and was interesting.For example,the book "THe Cotender"by Robert Lipsyte.There were so many action and decisions that were made,ether having to do with Alfred and James friendhip.Also,the help of Mr.Donatelli.Though,Alfred was one of my favrite characters because,he was brave and corageous when it came to his fighting.He learned how to listen to others opinons,but at the end of the day followed his heart.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite characters out of all my independent reading books is Percy Jackson from The Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan. Percy has ADHD but that doesn’t stop him from fulfilling his destiny of completing the oracle. He finds out that someone has stolen Zeus’s master lightening bolt and Hades’ helm of darkness. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover travel together to find the god’s symbols of power and bring it back to them. At the end of the book Percy fights one of the gods himself. Can you guess who he fights?
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite characters in my independent reading (so far) is Artemis Fowl II of the the fantasy book, Artemis Fowl by: Eoin Colfer. Artemis Fowl is a Irish 12 year old child prodigy and criminal mastermind. With his bodyguard, Butler, they pretty much cause trouble by stealing very valuable stuff. By doing this, the wealth will restore the wealth that his father (Artemis Fowl I) wasted on selling food products. When he makes a copy of "The Book Of The People" where it contains secrets of fairies and the world the reside in. Using the book, he kidnapped Holly Short, a captain of the LEPrecon unit (Lower Elements Police reconnaissance squad). This leads the The siege of Fowl Manor (Fowl Manor is the home of the Fowls and the Butlers). Despite the LEP's efforts (bio-bombing the manor, sneaking in, a troll and even time-stop technology.), Artemis succeeded and got the gold. Even though Artemis is the main protagonist of the book, Butler also played a huge roll in the book. He protected Artemis Fowl most of the time. But, during the siege, the troll was about to eat Juliet, his sister. He thought that family was more important at the time. In the end, Butler fought the troll himself. Can you guess who won?

In the novel,The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton,the main characters are called upon to be courageous.One of the main and, my favorite character is Johnny Cade.Johnny Cade is my favorite character because he plays a massive roll in this novel.Johnny maybe a Greaser but he has a soft spot inside of him.One thing that we mostly know him for is,killing Bob.It's like there is two sides of Johnny.He goes from killing someone and then to becoming a hero.But from coming a hero lead to death.Johnny's death lead to Dally being death.Johnny was a courageous young boy. However,Johnny is still alive for Ponyboy.Before,dying Johnny's last words were,"Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold.These were very meaningful words in this novel.My opinion on staying gold means is to,follow your destiny or follow the right path.Johnny Cade brought love and action into this novel,at the same time.This a loving and a action-packed novel,I would recommend for others to read this novel.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite character out of all the novels I have read in Independent Reading is Melinda Sordino from Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. She is a sophomore in Merryweather High School, Syracuse, New York. She is very unhappy, because she is the victim of being abused at a party, and she spends her entire ninth-grade year trying to come to terms with what happened to her. She refuses to speak most of the time and she misbehaves in interesting ways to try to give meaning to her own existence or to avoid the pain she feels so deeply. She appears to have great potential and she eventually discovered that she makes her life whatever it will become. She is my favorite character because I like her sense of humor. She has some things that remind her of me. For example, when she draws and colors she is relaxed and she feels like the world is at peace. When I draw I am in my sanctuary. She also can’t talk to people well. They make her nervous and she can’t express herself. Do you know what it feels like not being able to speak or tell someone how you feel? Do you know how it feels like to be able speak but not be able to express yourself?.....I do.

One of my favorite characters from previous books i have read is Johnny Cade from the novel The Outsiders. Johnny is my favorite character because he has a lot of bravery in him.First,He killed the leader of the soch Bob to save his best friend life Ponyboy.Second,Johnny risk his life to save the children in the burning church.For saving the children in the church put Johnny in harm and for so many injuries Jhonny died.However, Johnny wasn't the only person form the greaser who died.Also,Dally Winston die from being shot down from the police.Lastly, Johnny was a good friend and was a very brave person.One of my favorite lines that Jhonny said before he died was "Stay Gold Ponyboy".In conclusion,Jhonny was my favorite character from The Outsiders.

One of my favorite characters from the previous books I've read is Serena. She is a character from the series "The Daughter of the Moon", by Lynne Ewing. This book is mainly fantasy and mystical. Serena is the character that has the power to read other peoples minds. One thing I really love about her is that she is spontaneous and doesn't care what people think about her. She also relates to me as well. She plays many instruments and has friends that will always be there for her. Everyone wants a power to make life easier buy really the power is going to be a real problem sometimes. For Serena, she can't tell any of her family or her boyfriend. So think about it, can you handle the upsets of the power?

I donot have a foavorite character in any of the books that I have read. But,because i have to write about one i chose Peter Nichols from the novel "Remember Me" by Christopher Pike.Peter is a nice ghost who helped Shari Cooper accepted being dead. Peter and Shari were not friends when they were alive but became friends after death. Shair needed help accepting death and how to deal with the after life; Peter apperared and guided her. He stayed with her and protected her like a big brother. Peter help Shari find out how and why she died.

ReplyDeleteJennings is my favorite character because he was brave during the book. He never gaveup even though he got hurt or had some problems. Jennings pass alot of harsh stuffs like when his mom was sick. Even though he didnt say home much, while he was with his other family which is Martha and Sal. Jennings made friends in home of angle and in the other orffan. Jennings has 5 brothers and his mom and "the old man" which is his dad. He had never met his father but his 2 older brother had met him and one had follow his steps . Thats why Jennings is my favorite characters.

One of my favorite characters I have read from the past is Dallas Winston from the book Outsiders from S.E Hinton. The reason why I like this character is because even though he is not the protagonist of the book he still just as important as every one else. Dally is a bad boy Greaser that his follows his own rules. Dally does not listen to any body and and always get in trouble. At last when he found out Johnny died he was devastated. So he robbed a store and got shot by a cop and died. even though Dally died I think he was the most important character in the book.

Jupiter is the roman way of saying Zeus and is the strongest god in history of Greek mythology. My favorite things about him are the golden coin and his roman tattoo. His golden coin is something that can transform by flipping into the air it is either a golden spear that can summon lightning or a golden sword that usually makes monsters into golden dust( they usually die instantly). The roman tattoo is awesome because it can make gods change into their roman forms.

Although there are many great characters in The Lighting Thief by Rick Riordan, my favorite is Annebeth. She is the one with all the brains that helps her and her friends get out of harms way. She uses what she has learned throughout her years and puts it into an answer that helps save their lives. Percy may think that she is annoying and obnoxious, he comes to realize that she is a very helpful and loyal friend. They run low on food and have been lost many times. As kids, it will be a very brutle journey to get all the way to Mount Olympus to return Zeus' lightning bolt, with the acception of stops along the way that gets them caught in in between some gods. Percy is also very intelligent, but sometimes he doesn't use what he knows at the right time. Do you think Annebeth and her friends will make it to Mount Olympus safely?

Even though that there is many characters that i or many prefer to have as a favorite but my favorite character have to be, Billy.From Billy Baker's dog wont stay buried by M.T coffin.Billy is my favorite character because he had surpassed many challenges through out his life from losing his both his father and his dog Haword, to move to many places to stay out of poverty.Even facing through those challenges he has to face the problem that his dog is coming back to life with other pets to get revenge to the people who treated them badly.After facing,passing and solving those obstacles he still comes through to have a great life.

My favorite character is Johnny Cade. He is a friend of the protagonist who is just trying to stay out of trouble. He has recently committed a homicide with Ponyboy. They are trying to get away from the cops with Ponyboy(protagonist). They keep on running into tight situations.Johnny is quite, but he best communicates with Ponyboy. Do you think Johnny and Pony will get out of this mess?

In the book he they dicied to make them selfs hall way patroll. They had to walk kids to their house and check the hall way to see if ani body was skipping class. One day his friend could not go because he was sick so Greg had to take the kids by him self and some guy that were trying to beat him up so he through the kids in a hole and ran away. Do u think that they were good friend that can relay on them selfs.
ReplyDeleteThere are many characters in the book Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, but my favorite is Peeta Mellark. Peeta is not the protagonist but is marring her! He is a brave, artistic, apologetic, and intelligent. He is deeply in love with Katniss and will soon marry her. But this marriage isn't real Katniss is needed to marry him so her family, friends, and especially her to keep her life. Peeta is also very caring for the way he donates his money to the family of District 11 that has participated in The Hunger Games. I believe that his passion for love of Katniss will not live for longand will soon face the truth. . . Do you?
ReplyDeleteMy favorite character in, The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan, is Piper. Piper’s father is a famous actor, but forbids Piper to have anything to do with his life. He sends her to boarding school to boarding school but, Piper always finds away to get kicked out. Like for instance, when she stole a BMW. She claims to only have asked and they gave it to her, but who believes that? When she moves to Camp Half Blood (Her dad has no idea, she left the school), she finds out she’s daughter of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and beauty, her first thought was, No way. When she moves into the cabin she relieves to everyone are snobby and stuck up, it drives her crazy. She finally snapped when the cabin leader told her that it tradition to break up a relationship. She tells out the leader saying this isn’t what Aphrodite does. That take courage, especially when she just got to the camp.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite character from the book called The Contender by Robert Lipsyte. Alfred is my favorite character becausee he is very tough nd actually tries to become a excellent boxer. For example, when he was goin to fight a tough or strong guy, Mr.Donatelli denied the fight but Alfred accepted it . He wanted to show the world that he could win . He won most of his matches but lost that one. The guy that fought Alfred when he lost even told Alfred that he was a tough kid. I recommend you to read this book so that you could learn about how life is nd how tough it is .
ReplyDeleteOut of all of the characters in The outsiders, Ponyboy is my favorite. Pony is the protagonist so you automatically he is very important. Ponyboy is not a "criminal" like most greasers. He keeps everybody under control during the novel. Even though pony cares for everyone, he himself doesnt get enough care himself. He gets hurt at home and gets hurt by his friends. Ponyboy is a ironic name considering he does not ride a pony. To conclude, ponyboy is the only character in the book has a real family.

My favorite character in the book, "Un Lun Dun," by China Miéville is Deeba. Deeba is the main character of the story, otherwise known as the protagonist. Deeba is a rude, sassy type of girl, but she has a good heart. She is out to save the world with her friends from Un Lun Dun. Unlike her friends, she is the only human in this world. Deeba is not afraid of what others think of her. She will say what she wants, when she wants it, no matter what others say of her. Sometimes she gets a little carried away and accidentally hurts her friends. Deeba is the only one within her group of friends that thinks flying bunnies wearing Santa costumes is a little strange... her friends, on the other hand, find it completely normal! Consequently, Deeba is my favorite character because she is both the sassy, rude type, but also the confused, kind hearted type.

Out of all the previous books i read this year my all time favorite is Diary of Wimpy kid starring Greg Heffley. In the novel Diary of A Wimpy: The Ugly truth by:Jeff Kinney Greg has to face another year of school without Rowley in his life. However Greg had to face 1 or 2 years without Rowley but can do it again. While Greg has to deal with Rowley his Uncle is getting married and the talk is coming. In conclusion, how does Greg deal with his problems read it and find out.

Out of all previous I read this year my all time favorite is The Thief Lord.Prosper is a older sibling like me he always looking after his younger brother.Prosper and Bo control the direction of the book as they try stay incognito from a detective looking for them. Prosper he would never let anyone go near his brother over suspicion it might be Victor the detective.In conclusion Prosper is one of the characters who control the way of the story.

Out of all the crazy characters in Paul Riddell's fantasy The Immortals, my favorite has to be Nate Quarter. Nate Quarter is a 14 year old fourthling (fourthling=human in the book) who starts off as a worker in a mine lighting lamps. Then he escapes and starts off to the great city of Great Glade. There, he finds a job in a factory and finds a passion for the sport of thousandsticks. After this, he has to go get his friend to the fountain of life because the friend got shot. Will Nate save his friend? Read the book to find out.

ReplyDeleteThere are many characters I like from all the books ive read, but I would have to say my favorite character is Alfred Brooks from Robert Lipsyte's The Contender. He is one of my favorite characters because he is strong and cares about him and his own friends. Alfred doesnt stop when someone tells him to. He knows he has the power to keep going. For Example, After Alfred's third fight, Donatelli tells Alfred it is time to retire. He says that Alfred does not have the killer instinct. That didn't stop Alfred. Also, Alfred didn't want his best friend James to hang out with Major and Hollis because they were bad influences. Finally, Alfred knows that he can never give up and to stick up for his friends and be there for them.

The titile of my book that I'm reading is called On My Honor. The genre is ficton and the author of this book is Marion Dane Bauer. The character in the book that I liked was Tony. I liked Tony because he was a dare-devil and liked to do exciting things. But on the other hand, he acts stupid and imature, had crazy ideas, and lies a lot but hes a loving guy that cares about people. Thats a shame how he had to die. He died by drowning in water.

My favorite character from a book that i read this year is Mr.Pignati, from The Pigman by Paul Zindel. He is my favorite character because he is very kind and energetic. He is very kind to Lorraine and John, even when they weren't so nice to him. He thinks about them when he is doing other stuff, and insists on buying them whatever they want. His wife died, so sometimes he is lonely, but he doesn't show it and he doesn't break down and cry. He is strong and brave, and doesn't care what other people think about him. That is why Mr.Pignati is my favorite character out of all the books that I read.

Jenning's is my favorite character becuase he is brave even though he gets hurt alot he is still there. His 5 brothers lived with ths girl and his brother liked there becuase he got to do what ever he wants and when he is at home he always hase to do the chore like for ex. he hase to take car of Jennings and clean his bedroom and bathroom. I like and my favorite character is Adras, a shadow that can shoot lightning bolts. I am about to finish the 3rd in the series. It is a really good book and I recommend it to everyone. My favorite part was when Tal fell out of the tower and landed in the wasteland.
