Mandatory 8th Grade Assignment

Hope you enjoy your snow day.  The following assignment is NOT an option.  If you do not complete it, you will lose 10 points on your scorecard.  Text your classmates to let them know their is an assignment that they must complete. I'm checking this for both grammar and overall writing style/skills.

Assignment:  Why do you think some students do not work to their full potential in school? Why do you think they refuse to think about the implications of not trying to better their academic skills - the same skills that could get them into a good college or help them gain a career in an area of interest? Does this seem silly to you or are you sympathetic to their ignorance?

Be sure to include the following:
  • Topic Sentence
  • Transiton words/phrases
  • Paragraph should be at least 8-10 sentences
  • Please proofread and check for grammatical errors before submitting

  1. Many students do not work to their full potential in school. I think they don't work to their full potential because they have so many distractions in their lives. Students don't put their full attention in their school work because they are thinking of the things that are "more important." They think about the how their lives are now but what they should be doing is looking at their lives in the future. You should ask yourself... "Will the things I'm doing now, pay off in the future?" "Will I be successful in life with the work I'm doing in school?" If you answer "no" for any of these questions, you need to try harder with your school work. You need to work harder than your full potential. I really don't know why kids do not think about the effects of bettering their school work. The more better your school work is, the more chances there is to have a successful life. This is actually really silly because if you do not want to better your school work, you are just throwing your life away. You not wanting to better your school work is pretty much saying you don't care if you are a 40 year old man who lives with his parents playing video games all day. You don't need to be extra smart to be successful. You just need to work harder and eventually you will get the grades you want. People who refuse to work hard are the people that don't have a career. They have to make money by selling drugs or something.

  2. I think some students do not work to their full potential in school. Most kids in our school do not work to their full potential because they are lazy. For example, kids in our reading class don't post comments because their probably to lazy to go on the computer. Now kids only care about money and fame but in the future they will be the dropouts in college and will have to depend on their parents. If students don't work now they won't get a good job. Boys will probably play their x-box at their mom's house and girls could work at a club as something. This seems silly to me because one person decides their own path. You shouldn't feel bad for someone's ignorance. Their stupid, forget them.

  3. There many students who don’t work to their full potential in school. They don’t work to their full potential because maybe they just don’t care about their education or they have some kind of difficulty in life. For example, kids don’t care about their education when they cut class. Another example, is that if the kid's parents are fighting in anyway, the kid might be disappointed . He kid might not want to do anything. I think kids might not care about bettering their education because maybe they don’t care about Middle School but they do care about High School. They also don’t think about their future. This seems silly because when they are a piece of trash in the future, they will want to go back to the past.

  4. Many students do not work to their full potential. I think this because they don't care or think that work is not as important or as interesting as other things. Kids who cut class or just don't their work must not care about their future. This would affect your record and your future for a good college or a better high school. I do not know whythey don't think of trying to do better in school. That is what they want to do. It will affect them later on and they would realize that they made a bad decision earlier.

  5. I think that many students are just geting lazy now an then. Most of them think they dont need to study all the sobjects. They pick a corer and they think it can just make any think happen. mant think that college doz not mater. They can secsed on the leverl there on. Hopefully they realize there mastakes an dtry to corect it many be it wont be to late for them.they dont realize what there perents do for them how hard they have to work to get them a good educsion.im an example for faler for now i dont partisapat,do my homework, lose my notes,i dont pay atenshion and i get lazy at home may kids do the sam think or eeven just plat vido games. Many kids dont notes that other kides cant go to college cuz they dont have the mony so kids can't even go to school they dont have that apertonaty . So they have to take advanteg and study to get a good corer and become someone people look up to .

  6. I think that students do not work to their full potential because they think they can live without an education. True, but you'll be working three jobs at minimum wage @ BK, Mcdonalds and Wendy's. I think they don't care because they think they'll ALL be lucky and become a great singer or actor. This really seems stupid to me because even if you push yourself towarsds it, only 1% of all candidates get selected. Plus, that criminal report on you smoking the green stuff won't help much either. Personally, I feel annoyed that only 12 out of the, what, 80 8th graders are in the honors program. And I ask the people that aren't why they're not in it. They say, "Well, I'm great in math but iffy in Science." Why are you iffy in Science? "Well, ummm, I don't fell like doing the work." Hmmmm, seems odd right? They all CAN get into honors, it's just that our generation has grown to be %$*#ing lazy and get spoiled. Oh and JV, they aren't too lazy to get on the computer, they're just stuck on the drug named Facebook! I deleted mine (And might do so again) because I realizxed there's no needs for the ****, all it is, is 50% Farmville and 50% posts to draw attention. Plus, having a facebook while being a businessman don't mix. I think I covered everything.

  7. I think students do not work to their full potential because they think that they won't need the education. True, but then you'd be working three jobs @ BK, Mcdonalds and Wendy's. Many of them think they will hit it big and be an actor, singer or play in NFL/NBA. Not really, because only 1% of the candidates are chosen and that criminal record of you smoking the green stuff won't help either. I think this is stupid because most of them don't push themselves in high school. I think half the 8th grade could be in Honors if they tried. I've asked a few kids "Why don't you do well in science?" "Well, ummm, huh, I guess it's because I don't feel like doing the work." WELL THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM! This generation of kids is ****ing lazy and think they get their fame and fortune handed to them. Think again, because you'll end up like ****. And to JV thinking that kids are too lazy to get on their computers. Not really, they'll get on their computers, they just will stay on Facebook until they realize "Oh ****, I have to do that blog Mr.V said for us to do." And then they'll do a half-***ed attempt at good writing. That's what I feel about this grade. Get off Facebook, and get your FACE into real BOOKS. I'm out.

  8. i think that most students don't do their work because they have problems at home and can't focus on their school work, but i think the main purpose is because they are to lazy to post. Also, maybe their into something else their doing and time flies by fast or some kids think i don't need this because ii am not going to collage. Finally, some kids don't do any work because some parents do punish them ,so they don't care.

  9. I think most students don't do their work because they probably are social more & focused on other things then school. Some students have problems at home & can't focus on their work when everything is going on all at once.Other students couldn't care less but i think people should motivate them.Students probably don't have a positive role model in there life & that could be affecting them because all they see & hear is negative things.I think students can do there work if they put there head into it & can get extra help or anything that they need to succeed in life.

  10. Okay, so 8 posts and counting....Where are the rest of our classmates? Lamont posted to his own blog so we'll give him a pass - Text, email, IM the other 5 and tell them to jump in!! I think all the responses so far have been great. The writing is really starting to take shape.

Felice....you're like a younger version of myself. Maybe just a little smarter though - lol.

  11. Amanda:

Many students have issues at home and sometimes are lazy.
First, When an assignment is due many kids think that its not important. Instead of doing homework or studying, they play video games and hang out with friends. For example, they think playing xbox and listening to ipods is more important than homework. Also many students think that they can miss all homework that is given and pass their class by trying to get good grades on tests and quizes.
Then, Students may have issues at home that are distracting them on working hard in school work. They should talk to a teacher or maybe a confidant to help them get through their situation.
Finally, Some kids just have to much to do when they get home. They never have time to do their homework and study. Their schedule may be overbooked but, that also is not an excuse.

  12. I feel the need to say many students do not attend to work to their full potential because they are defficent when it comes to their work.Or very careless and are concern about other things which arent important. For example, drama, playing video games, and boys when your work is more important.Therfore these students should work harder and want to strive to do their best.Studying now, challeniging yourself now, staying focus now, will help you in your future.

  13. You know what I think about you lazy 8th graders, is that you keep saying your going all good with the ladies but are you going well in your studies. People these day are getting to caught up about how they look, how they smell, and how popular are they.(such as myself). They need to more self confident about there work and take pride in your knowledge. There a bunch of reasons why 8th graders are being so anal(that's what she said) about there work is because of gaming. I am an addict of Xbox360 myself but it takes away your knowledge of anything and turns it into a bunch of thoughts about killing and trash talking over the microphone. 8th graders should get there heads out of there buts and start taking notes on how to manage their in school. If kids tried to be more intelligent and let their parents butt in to there HW. And like the greatest 3 point shooter Ray Allen one said “Everything I know now . . . the pitfalls, the highs and lows, everything . . . it taught me and made stronger.”
