Assignment: Explain why it is important we remember civil rights activists like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Huey Newton, Angela Davis, & Rosa Parks, etc. You do not have to research all of these people (feel free to do so, but we'll do that later) - consider them as an entire group, and be specific about the impact they made as a whole on our country.
Hint: Think about what life was like for African-Americans in the United States before the 1960's Civil Rights Movement and where we are now in 2011 (President Obama).
Be sure to include the following:
- Topic Sentence
- Transition words/phrases
- Paragraph should be at least 8-10 sentences

I personally think that that remembering all the people who were involved in the civil right movements like,Marthin luther king jr.,rosa parks, and malcom X. I feel thankful;very, because I myself would not be here. Not only did these pople fight for the rights of african americans but latinos, like myself. Not only for myself but the magnificiant friends I have met. It is extremly important to realize that. This is a holiday...more than a holiday celebrating he who gave us those rights...and on the bright side no school. My hero is rosa parks and I was really impressed by the exdrodanary things that she did. Although,in those days not the best choice to make. Ehh? Well, you don't know untill you take a risk...like she did. And look how it turned out she's,one of the most reconized and popular african american that made a change in history...well helped. You don't hear people now a days say " hey who's rosa parks?" "Whaaa? " I don't know some cool chick from the 40's 60's? Ehh.. " you play xbox?" I mean come on who does that usally these days random people come up and say something like that they're going to get punched in the...face. so those are some of my few reasons why we should respect and honor the civil rights movement.go Rosa Parks!!![:

Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.,Rosa Parks ,Malcolm X,do any of these names ring a bell to you.Well they should, for most people, especially for youngsters and us kids.Well for me I personally think we should remember these people and others who fought for us because they are the reason of why we are here today.First, the most common man we all know and love,Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.We mostly know this man for his speech, the I Had A Dream speech. This man is an angel that God sent from above. He dreamed that people could live in peace some day.Black and whites walking side by side,Martin Luther King wanted people to get along. He wanted black and whites to be like brother and sisters, and his dream came true, however,he was not able to see his dream come true.Martin Luther King was a peaceful, lovely ,and incredible man.Right know I am just speechless, because their are so many words that I would like to say about this man,but which would be perfect. We need more people in this world like,Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.I feel sorrowful for this man because he did not get to see his dream come true. Then, their is Rosa Parks a lady who has no fear {courageous}.She is the women who has guts. When someone told her to give up her seat on the bus she said a big fat,freak-in no.She did not care if she had to go to jail.I bet Rosa Parks would not even give that seat up for a $1,000,000,000.Rosa Parks was a brave lady. What she did was meant to do.The white person could have said so many curses to Rosa Parks and still she would not give up her seat. The white person could have said,"Yo get your freak-in ass off that seat and still Rosa Parks would not care.I think I have made my point now.Their should be more courageous and brave people like Rosa Parks. Finally, their is Malcolm X another civil rights activists.Malcolm X and Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. are just like each other.Malcolm X is a man who wants peace to and his speeches are meaningless. He had the same dream as Martin Luther King and went through the same types of crisis {house being burned down} but sadly he was not able to see what he had accomplished.Over the weekend I would like you all to take a moment of silence for all those who have fought for our rights. As for African Americans they have also helped us with fighting for our rights such as Rosa Parks. To conclude,it is important to remember for those, who fought for our rights and freedom.

Sorry for harsh language I was trying to make a point
The civil rights movement was a very BIG event that happended in the 60s.People were seperated by there culture which happens to be the MOST STUPIDEST THING IN THE WORLD!I cant belive it actully happend its like back then nobody had common sense or a brain. Its 2011 and we have a african-hawiian president(Yea thats right!)so that proves that all that stuff we learned EVERY SINGLE YEAR changed the world.Remember that THE WORLD IS A BIG BOX OF CRAYOLA CRAYONS and we can only thank GOD OUR FATHER for that and without him we would be nowhere. So what Im trying to say is that people like Dr.King sould get some credit.Monday is not just a day off from school its a day of remeberence."God so love the world and ALL its living things".Where would we be if not for His grace?(nowhere).

The Civil Rights movement was one of our greatest moments of our american history.Without the major people including in that movement our history would never be the same.Like what Vanessa said we wouldnt get to meet magnificent people in our lives. If our world was know to be a racist world than our leader President Obama wouldnt had a chance to even to try to be a president if our world was like this.So also like Justin,Maya, and Vanessa we SHOULD reconize those people who gave us those rights to see those magnificent people,President Obama and our world being a big box of crayons. All im trying to say is that even that we dont have school on monday we WILL reconize those people who had CONFIDENT IN THEMSELVES ON THIS FREELAND THEY STOOD ON TO GIVE US THOSE RIGHT WE HAVE TODAY. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Huey Newton, Angela Davis, & Rosa Parks we all love you for what you people were brave or confident for the things that you have changed in our history.CAN WE ALL HAVE A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR THESE AMAZING PEOPLE FOR WHAT THEY HAD DONE IN THEIR LIVES FOR LETTING USE STAND HERE RIGHT NOW WITHOUT A WORLD WITH SIGNS SAYING WHITES ONLY. ....... THANK YOU

White people were so ghetto talking all this nonsense about black people. If the racist white people were here now and saw Obama they would be like "yo" that's messed up. Those civil rights people like Dr King were actually brave enough to protest in front of public. They changed the way of life for everyone now and then. Dr King called for racial equality and an end to discrimination. These freedom fighters were the real heroes of history. Rosa Parks another fighter was arrested for refusing to give up her seat. This showed the courage in mis-treated civilians. Even though some blacks now are still in the hood they are still regular people. One thing i find hilarious in our grade is how there is only 2 white people and mostly the rest are black. People should think about civil rights actors and be influenced.

It is really important to remember civil rights activists like Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, etc. If it wasn't for them, our lives would be completely different. African Americans would still be treated poorly by whites and they wouldn't have the rights that they want. Before the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s, African Americans had barely any rights. That is what led to the Civil Rights Movement. Whites treated them like trash and they used violent gangs like the Ku Klux Klan against them. These civil rights activist were very courageous by fighting to end racial discrimination and for the rights of African Americans. Now we have a day called Martin Luther King Day to remember him and recognize all the things he did to help us be who we are today. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X risked their lives for their fellow African Americans. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated for being the courageous person he was. If it wasn't for them, our country would be the same racist country it was before the Civil Rights Movement.

I think its important to remember the civil rights because Martin luther king,Rosa Parks, and etc. are the people who wanted rights. For Martin Luther King he had thought that black and whites should be together and share everything.Another thing is Dr. Martin Luther King wanted the fighting to stop with the blacks and whites.Another person who was almost similar to what Dr. Martin Luther king is Rosa Park.Rosa Parks didnt like the rules of how everything was when people were fighting. So one day when she was on a bus a white man told her to move and she refused. These people are coragous people who would fight for freedom and no more fights about certain things. Also some of these people did make a difference such as Dr. King would got all of use together and has been like this ever since. If it wasnt for Dr.King we wouldnt all be together.

I think we should remember the civil rights because it was a very big moment for us(the people). Especially for African- Americans.Back in the 1960's African-Americans were being treated very cruley,by being slaves and working for white pepole.Depending on where slaves worked and lived they were able to get some rights. For example the slaves that were in the British Colonies were often treated very cruely, they were whiped beaten, etc. But slaves that were in Africa had to be treated with some dignity, and cruel treatment was unacceptable. But because of Harriet Tubman and Abraham lincoln they were both able to change everything and give slaves freedom they diserved.Later on after slavery Afican- Americans were treated, not cruely but with no respect. African-Americans and white people were not allowed to go to the same school, be friends, have a relationship, and even live in the same nieghborhoods. The only way African-Americans could be in the same place with whites was the bus. However African-Americans had to sit in the back whlie whites could sit where ever they want, but usually they would sit in the front. But one day, a hard, tired working African- American women, named Rosa Parks, had got on to a bus and sat in the front. She had been told to be move a number of times so a white person could sit there but she had refused to move. So as Rosa Parks sat there the bus driver had told her that he will call the police if she does not get up. But yet she still sits there. So the bus driver calls the police, and once the police come they try to ask her once again to move to the back. When she said no they had arested her for a while. While she was in jail people had stared to notice Rosa Parks point about not sitting in the back and being allowed to sit were we want. So because of that there was the boycott. The boycott was a moment in civil rights were African- Americans went on strike and didnt ride the bus.Instead they walked. They walked to school and work and they even walked back from school and work. At times they walked in the cold snow or in the hot sun.But soon when the bus company's stared to noticed that the company was not going good they had no choice but to let the people sit where ever they want, so Rosa Parks was out of jail and people had the right to sit were they want. Another time was when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made a speech about how whites and blacks should not be juged by the color of there skin but should be juged on there fortitude or personality. That speech had opened up the worlds eyes and showed them that EVERYBODY deserves rights. So in conclusion, these are the moments we should remember in the civil rights because these are the moments that changed our lives.

Its important to remember Dr.Martin Luther King Jr.,Rosa Parks, and Malcom X.They are just a few of the people in history who made a change. Dr King is known all over by people for two things, his famous speech,I Had a Dream and for the boycot movement. If it wasnt for Dr.king blacks and whites would still be seperated and we would still see "WHITES ONLY" signs around town.Rosa Parks is another example of people who changed the world with one little thing, not giving up her bus seat for a white man.Rosa refused to give up her seat because she was tired from work and disided to seat upfront in the whites only section instead of the black section instead. As a result Ms.Parks got aressted but when Dr.king heard of this he got inspired to start the boycot movement. In conclusion,Its importent to remember these important people in history and give them a moment of silence because they diserve it the most after all they risked in their lives.

Its important that we remember certain civil right activists because if they didn't do what they did we all wouldn't be here, living equally. Even though everyone one was especially cruel to African -Americans other people of color like Asians, Indians, Latinos, they were criticized and treated with cruelty as well. Most people believed that white should be the only race and blacks and other colors should be below them and have no rights. The reason people with color now can express there rights is because of Dr.Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Rosa Parks, Angela Davis and etc. They fought for civil rights for everyone that's was colored or anyone that just needed it. If I was an African-American back then I didn't know what I would've of done, I would've felt so helpless without all the activists that had helped. I don't get why people just don't want to get along and be equal. No one is above or below anyone and everyone can get along. Its not very hard to do it's just there's certain people that don't want it to be like that and has a different way juggled up in there mind. Something that really bothers me is that people still judge the color of your skin. After all what the activists did for everyone it still goes on. Though we all should remember the positive moments of the people that changed everyone's lives.

It is important that we remember the civil rights movement and the people who were involved with it. (Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks.) That was a very important time for African-Americans. Back then, in the 1960s, African Americans were treated unfairly. They were hated by whites and wasn't treated the same. They had to go to different schools, sit at different places on the bus, and drank from different water fountains. Dr. King, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, and others fought for equal rights. They risked their lives to bring peace with the peole. It was unfair to blacks that they couldn't have the same rights as others. African Americans were people too, but others saw them as dark skinned freaks. They thought they didn't belong and how are they still living. Dr. King wanted the fights to stop, and wanted his kids to live in a peaceful world. Thanks to him, Rosa Parks, and Malcolm X, we can all live as friends.
ReplyDeleteIt is important we remember civil rights activists like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Medgar Evers, Stokely Carmichael, Bobby Seale, Huey Newton, Angela Davis, & Rosa Parks, etc because they are the reason why black people are free from racism and treated with respect. They fought for blacks to have the same rights as white people. We should appreciate them because blacks now have great opportunities and are able to show their intelligence. They give us the courage to stick up for ourselves. For example, when Rosa Parks sat at the front of the bus, she didn’t let anybody tell her what to do or make her give up her right to sit in the front. As a result, she went to jail, but black people soon were able to sit anywhere they wanted to on the bus. We should remember all of our black leaders because they are the reason why black people can be successful and independent in life.

Today is a special day, it is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. It might be his birthday but we should remember other great people during the civil rights movement, like Malcolm X and Rosa Parks. Back then, during the civil rights movement people did not get along so well because of their skin color. It was basically crayons that did not want to come together into a big box of crayons. Segregation was all over the the place. No one would try to stop it until, one day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr said he had enough of this. He gave many speeches and he even protested. People began stepping up , they set boycotts and sit ins. Thats when all the other civil right leaders started. Now if Dr. King never stood up we would all be that world where all the crayon hate each other. Have you ever heard Dr. King's famous speech I have a dream? Well, that has to be his most famous, he talks a about a world where people(crayons) come together to be a big world of people who did not hate people because of their skin color. Today you may just remember Dr. King, but you should remember other great people as well and not just today ,but everyday.

They were not treated like slaves but they were looked down upon society. They were not treated with equality. These civil rights leaders attempted to change the minds of the community. They had the courage and fortitude to stand up for themselves. These people like malcolm x or rosa parks are the reason society has matured enough to elect a black president. The Civil Rights Movement (approximately 1950-1970), is the era of cultural and racial discrimination for many minorities, especially African-Americans. Many Blacks at this time faced challenges like getting into a proper education, at proper way of living and even heath. Lets trace back to Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. In this order, it banned slavery from the United States. After the civil war, African-Americans can vote, but they didn't have equal rights compared to the Caucasians, who dominated communities and jobs at the time. During this time, the Ku Klux Klan, a group of mostly Caucasians killed, stole from and kidnapped many African-Americans because of simple hatred toward the race. This group has been involved in anti-immigration, the civil rights movement, terrorism, and Nazism. Their troubles Between approximately 1900-1925, millions of African-Americans moved to the northern part of the USA. This led to events like the Harlem Renaissance. During this time, society literally splits apart. As the result, Blacks and Whites go to different schools, split restaurants, houses, even different water supplies. It wasn't until the 1950s and 60s that the people like Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X,and Rosa Parks come into play. Martin Luther King Jr. had led peaceful marches to protest against black discrimination and segregation. He delivered the "I have a dream" speech at 1963 to show "The People" that it does not matter what color, we are one. The points are similar to what John Lennon would say 10 years later. Malcolm X was a African-American Muslim minister who like MLKJr., protected rights of Blacks and Muslims. Rosa Parks did a sit-in in a bus by sitting in a seat for a White person. Although she was arrested by the matter, she inspired the sit-ins in restaurants and boycotts in the buses. These people made a mark to the civil rights movement despite the assassinations of Malcolm X (1965) and MLKJr. (1968). They remain in people's hearts today.

ReplyDeleteIt is important to remember the civil rights movement and how the activities made a difference. For example Martin Luther King Jr had a big roll in the civil rights movement. He believed that all people should be treated same as everyone. He also wanted to achieve his goal that everyone was treated equally. He fought for what he beleived. He fought using words and not violence. Sadly he died in 1968 with a shot on the head.He had a big roll in the civil right movement, however,Rosa Parks had big roll too.
ReplyDeleteShe was brave enough to stay on her bus seit and not give it to a white person. They took her to jail for not giving up her seit.Martin Luther king Jr suggested that nobody should take the bus and walk wherever they wanted to go, until they would let them sit wherever they wanted. I personally think that we have to be thankful for people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who made the civil rights come true. For example, if non of them people decided to have the civil rights we wouldn't have Mr.Vergara as a teacher, everyone would be split up.Dr Martin Luther King Jr had a reason to make everyone united no one split up by color, race, gender,or even religion. African Americans in the u.s before the civil rights movement was completely devastating. there was not any freedom for much people. today there is complete freedom for everyone, thanks to some people such as Malcolm x and Martin Luther king Jr. without them the world wouldn't be the place it is now.
ReplyDeleteIt is very important that we remember civil right activists like Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. , Rosa Parks, Malcolm X, etc. It is important because they ended segregation in our country. Segregation separated our world because of the color of our skin. Dr.Martin Luther King spoke out to our country with his famous speeches. All these African American people fought for their rights and did anything to get their rights. For example, Rosa Parks disobeyed the law by sitting in the front of the bus and got arrested. If I was an African American I dont think I would be brave enough to get arrested or even physically punished just for my rights. Now in 2011, we have Obama as our president. He is the first African American president of the United States. Now, because of these specific African Americans we are free and we are friends with many people with different skin color.
ReplyDeleteIn the year of 1960,there were many activists that contributed to the Civil Rights movement. A man named Martin Luther King Jr., a woman named rosa parks, and many others all helped to change segregation.
ReplyDeleteRosa parks was a woman that changed a black persons rights to sitting on a bus. Blacks used to sit in the back and Whites in the front. When a white man wanted Rosa's seat she refused to get up. This action led her to jail but because of her, blacks protested and didn't ride the bus creating the Montgomery BoyCott. Soon after they let blacks sit where ever they wanted because the bus company started loosing money.
Martin Luther King Jr., also had a great impact on the civil rights movement. Martin was a leader that preached peace and love. He wanted blacks and white to come together and love one another despite their differences in skin color and more. He didn't want blacks to create war so he gave his famous "I HAVE A DREAM " speech. This speech spoke to many African americans on how to make a difference in this segregation without violence. Although Martin was assassinated before his dream came he made a big difference in this nation.
Martin and Rosa showed us that anything is possible. Now in 2011 we have Barrack Obama out first african american president, this shows just what Rosa and Martin tried to preach, we are not judged by the color of our skin but the content of our character.

DUe to the civil rights movment we wouldnt have freedom like we have today. Such as the freedom to vote which now we have our first African American president. Barack O Bama we now have freedom of choice. Expect for illegal things I can do or go where I want. I can even state my opinion and make a difference.
ReplyDeleteThe civil rights movement was by far one of the most important things ever to happen in the U.S.A.
ReplyDeleteMartin Luther King Jr. was the person I have admired and known since preparatory kindergarten.
Martin Luther King Jr. was very smart and skipped 2 grades (Ninth and twelve. Martin Later preached about Gandhi and told how he won a war without firing a single arrow( he won without fighting). Later after he became an official civil rights leader his house was burned down. Though others seeked vengeance Martin said not to. After that he made his famous speech in Washington d.c.. Sadly he was murdered by James Earl Ray with a sniper rifle. The Next day the people were angry both white and black demanded that we were equal(not all whites and blacks especially in the south).

The Civil Rights Movement was such an important time in history, and it made such an impact that it would be hard to not remember. People such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcom X, Rosa Parks, etc. did incredible things and they fought for what they believed in. Although it's a cliche term, it's exactly the truth. They, as well as others, did wonders for this country and they made a difference. Their words and determined hearts made great things happen. For America to have come from what it was before the Movement, to present day, where our president is an African-American, is such an immense accomplishment. Those who fought and fought for equality and rights did their hardest to make people understand. They wanted people to hear the wise words they preached. Although the racism and injustice will never be completely gone, I still feel we've come a long, and successful way for now.

It is important to remember Dr. King Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks etc. because with them and their actions, in the span of 40-50 years we have gone from segregation to having an African-American as President. This was all accomplished with determination. Even though Dr. King went to jail 2-3 times (can't remember) he still came out of jail determined to get all people of America to live together in harmony. Rosa Parks was determined to stay in the seat on the bus.I don't know much about Malcolm X to be honest, but for whatever he did, it was because he was DETERMINED. While we still have racism in small corners of America, at least it isn't publicly shown by lynchings and the KKK. It always annoyed me that some presidents (Hoover, I think Johnson) were pro-segregation also. At least my favorite president, JFK, was on Dr. King's side.
ReplyDeletewell i think that they faght for freedom. they whanted every one to have the same right, they whanted to to make people be equal and feel equale. They all foght so hard and it took them time but they where abule to secsed and make it they nuw that if they worked that hared it wouldent just comke to them by not doing any thing they had to work hard and really want it and be willingly wanted. they fout for what was right for freedoom for every one to have equal aportunates. they may have hade it back then but in this day not every one has thos right even if they worked so hard in it. People today have to try now and imk mean imagrents have to work to there pantenchoul.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important to remember people like Dr.Martin Luther King J.R to show what we fought for our freedom and how we fought for our freedom. Many of the activist fought with their words and actions to show they were not gonna let no one push them around and take their freedom in many different ways so i think we should remember these people to show you should fight for what u believed in. For example a white man told Rosa Parks to give him her seat, Rosa refused and did not move. Rosa showed with her actions she should not give up her seat to a white man. That is why i think we should remember these people.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has made such an impact on our lives today and so hads all the civil rights movement activits. They believed no matter what your skin color is everyone is equal. Malcom x belieaved that if someone puts there hands on you, you have the right to fight back. He believed that people should get respect if there willing to give it back. He also believed in having a good education and being intelligent is how you go somewhere in this world. He also belives that you can only get freedom if you would do anything for it. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcom X both wanted the same thing as did all the civil rights movement activits, freedom.
ReplyDeleteDr.Martin Luther King has helped many African American succed in life today. He strongely believed that we should all be treatedd as equals no matter what color your skin is. To prove how much he believed in it he help promote the civil right movement so that anyone of any race can be treated as equals. Rosa Parks also showed that she believed in equality by not moving her seat when she was told. The reason she was told to move her seat was becuase she was an African American and she was not sitting at the back of the bus.I think that both of these people and many others who promoted the civil rights movements are very impotant to the history of african Americans.
ReplyDeleteDr Martin is the best man to ever speak about his own kind i like one of his quotes it says FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAST THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST
ReplyDeleteDr.Martin Luhter King jr.had a dream that no one person would be treated with cruelty because of their color.Dr. king and others who believed that everyone should be treated with equality no matter color they are marched in many protests.Rosa Parks who believed strongly in what Martin said started the bus boycott. when she did not give up her seat to a white man she was arrested. After that event, all blacks stopped riding the bus and car pooled or walked where ever they had to go. When the bus companies started losing money they allowed blacks to sit anywhere they wanted to sit on the bus. Because of these two people and many others I now go to school with many kids of diffrent races and live with out segragation. It is important to remember these people because they suffered and went through alot for the public.
ReplyDeleteDr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a very important man in our history. If it wasn't for him white and black people would be fighting and arguing instead of interacting with each other. Both should be treated fairly and must treat themselves with equality. No one should be saying that they're better just because of their skin color. Martin is a hero because he made everyone have opportunities. Now becuse of him and other important people white and black people have the same education, talents, skills, ect. I think Martin Luther King Jr. made the world peaceful and we must remember him for his bravery.
ReplyDeleteMartin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 at his family home in Atlanta, Georgia.Always a strong worker for civil rights for members of his race.he was very important to us if it wasnt for him i would of never been in this school right now
ReplyDeletewell i think that its important to remember big events like that because memory are a big part of life. Like when my little sister was born December 26th 2010 i will always remember that. Martin Luther king changed a lot for us if it wasn't for him we would probably be slaves or something we need more people like him. Still today a lot of people have bad judgment about black people these days. But we still deal with it and not do anything to get ourselves in trouble. If i was martin Luther king i would of told the people that black people are kinda smarter than white people that's why we have a black president.
ReplyDeleteI feel it is important we recognize Martin.Luther king,Rosa Parks,Melcom X,and others that participated in the civil right movement because they helped fight for everybodys freedom.Weather it was having the right to vote, going where ever you wanted,or taking the bus without being put somehere else like in the back of the bus. These activist were unique and independent in their on way. They fought very strongly for all of our rghts, and never gave up.
