  1. On September 8, 1974, President Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon of any wrongdoings in the Watergate scandal. Thee vocab word that relates to this is amnesty. One of the events that took place was the Watergate burglaries. Another event that happened was the Watergate tapes. they were a subset of the Nixon tapes and was a collection of recordings of conversations between U.S. President Richard Nixon and various White House staff. Another event that happened was the Saturday Night Massacre was the term given by political critics to U.S. President Richard Nixon's discharge of independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox, and the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus.

  2. President Ford pardoned President Nixon because o f all the crimes he committed against Americans. It was the rigt thing to pardon Nixon because Ford wanted the best for the United States. An event that occured was the Watergate scandal. Critics thought that the only reason Ford pardoned Nixon was so he could be president. I totaly agree with Joshua that amnesty is related to this topic. Ford also issued the Proclamation 4311. This allowed Nixon to be pardoned. There isnt really a lot of good information to write.

  3. President Richard Nixon was the 37th president of the United States. He committed many crimes. He had plots to assassinate people and he had to do with the Watergate scandal. He broke into the Watergate Hotel. He also committed other federal crimes. This led to President Ford giving him an amnesty for all the federal crimes he committed under office.

  4. President Ford pardoned president Nixon for crimes he committed in the Watergate scandal, contrary to the wishes of the vast majority of the American people. In the 1976 presidential election Ford was narrowly defeated by Democrat Jimmy Carter, a loss generally attributed to his decision to allow the hated Nixon to go scot-free.

  5. President Ford pardoned president Nixon because of all the crimes he committed against the American people. He was also pardoned for all the things he did and did not do. Was that the write thing to do? Absolutely because President Ford wanted healing for America. Even if we went to the past and president Nixon was put into prison, t still wouldn’t of mattered because he still committed those crimes. When president Ford pardoned president Nixon he knew that they would have to find a way to let go of the past and move on.

  6. President Ford pardoned former President Nixon in 1974 because globally it would look bad for the United States to have a president sent to jail. Also, it would be embarrassing for the United States to know that their impeached president was in jail. I also think that President Ford pardoned former President Nixon because it would be hard for the United States to forget about the past and move on to the future. President Ford wanted the United States to begin to heal because it would be easier for the people of the United Stated to forget about what happened to President Nixon and start all over.

The events that took place in the Watergate scandal lead to President Nixon’s resignation. Five people from President Nixon’s party broke into a hotel and tried to wiretap a room with important pentagon papers. A security guard caught the five men; he called the police and had the men arrested. One of the men wrote a letter to the judge telling him what occurred that night and how he received information from President Nixon. In addition, President Nixon told the CIA to try and interfere with the FBI’s investigation. As a result, President Nixon resigned from being president and was pardoned by President Ford.

I am shocked by President Nixon’s actions and feel that President Ford’s decision to pardon former President Nixon was a good idea because he showed loyalty to his former president.

  7. President Ford pardoned Nixon because he wanted the whole scandal to end. Nixon was connected to a burglary of the Democratic National Committee HQ, because officials found tapes of him having conversations on how he would cover up the problem. The payment to the robbers was the fund that the Committee to Re-Elect the President used. This whole scandal was the first and only time a President has resigned from office. I think that President Ford did the right thing because then the scandal might have blown out of proportions. Even so, Nixon was a lucky man for just losing his job and not going to jail or getting fined. The whole country was affected by this and now, scandals are given the suffix -gate.
