  3. 1) Sonia had the LEVERAGE of her mother’s full support, as a single parent. Her mother placed what Sotomayor would later call an "almost fanatical emphasis" on a privileged education, pushing her children to become fluent in English and struggling to afford a set of encyclopedias to give them proper research materials for school. Sotomayor graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx in 1972 and entered the ivy-league Princeton University. She graduated from Princeton in 1976. She was also awarded with the highest academic award given to Princeton undergraduates. That same year, Sotomayor entered Yale Law School, where she was an editor for the Yale Law Journal. She received her J.D. in 1979, and passed the bar in 1980.

    2) After Sonia Sotomayor found out about her diabetes, she was the first Hispanic to sit on the high court, and she would also be the first Justice with Type 1 diabetes. She knew if would affect her job and she would be in GRAVE danger when the symptoms began to act up. Her conditions increased risk of several serious medical situations, including heart disease, kidney problems, blindness and nerve damage — and an increased risk of early death. Doctors say that if it’s treated well people with diabetes Type 1 will live healthy lives.

    3) Since when Sonia was a little girl she always wanted to be a lawyer and her dream continued until she got older. Although she had full support of her mother, Sonia’s mother had a MEAGER amount of money and wasn’t able to pay for her colleges and universities. Sonia had to try her best to get scholarships. Since she was low in money Sonia attempted to do her best in school, and she got in to many of the most elevated universities.

    4) One day as Sonia was packing to go to Princeton she found out she needed a jacket because it is cold where she was going. Sonia’s mother took her to the store and no one would attend her. Employs would look at her and ignore her. Finally her mother got tired of that and said out loud,” My daughter needs a jacket so she can go to college.” Someone came and asked her what college she was going to and she answered Princeton. Immediately after saying that employs were bringing her all types of jackets and convincing. When they left the store Sonia told her mother that she felt like people were nice only because of her abilities and advantages.

    5) Because of her potential, intelligence and capacity she IMPRESSED many people and was one of the Hispanics to be in Princeton, which was a place where they usually weren’t permitted. Since Sonia was studying law, she learned a lot about it and met people in her the same stage as her. She formed a group called “The Daily Princetonian” and with the group she had, they sued the school for not letting Hispanics. She fortunately won the case and the school hired Hispanic teachers/ employs and students.
