7th Grade: Assignment # 5

Conjunction: a word that joins words or groups of words

THE TASK: Choose 3 conjunctions from the following list and write three separate sentences (using one in each sentence) about something you have learned about either the Inuit, Cliff Dwellers, or East Indian cultures. (You may write all three sentences about one culture but you do not have to.)

1. I was impressed with the inner fortitude of the Inuit because they were able to survive while living in a very difficult climate.

2. The Cliff Dwellers left their homes when they realized the drought was making it impossible to grow enough food to survive.

  1. The Inuit lived in harsh climates, but there igloos were warmed by oil lamps filled with blubber. The Cliff Dewlers didnt live in igloos nor log houses, they lived in caves on the side of cliffs. The inuit would use kayaks for hunting and getting around the water, when they would go on there kayaks they would wear a special suits.

  3. 1.Since the Inuits didn't have tree bark to use for fire, the seals provided blubber that could fuel oil lamps.

    2.The Cliff Dwellers lived in 200 apartments on the side of a mountain because it was one of the only places where the civilization could build settlements.

    3.The Inuit used a igloo as shelter from the cold, although pit houses were also used (houses dug in the ground made of mud and dirt.)

  4. 1.The Inuit lived in harsh weathers, but animals provided blubber to make the Inuit somewhat warmer.

    2.The Anasazi lived on mountains but had farmland on the top of the mountain to make crops.

    3.The Inuit hunted many whales in older times, although, now they can only kill one whale per tribe because of the endangering of whales.

  6. 1) The Inuits were a very complex group of Indians because they were forced to live in very harsh cnditions.

    2) The Inuits lived in iglooos although they lived in pit houses as well.

    3) The Inuits lived in pit houses because it would keep them warm in the winter although they also use smokeless oil lamps filled with whale blubber to keep them warm.

  9. 1. The Inuit lived in the Arctic region of North America, but since it was cold they used reindeer fur to stay warm.
    2. The Anasazi lived in cliffs for protection from predators and enemies, but their downfall was that they got arthritis from living in the cliffs.
    3. The Anasazi lived in a dry environment, so they lived in the cliffs to stay cool.

  10. 1.The whales provided blubber for the Inuits to warm their igloos and pit houses with oil lamps. 2.After warming the house, they would sing,dance,tell stories,and look at the stars. 3.The Inuits couldn't farm because of the harsh and below freezing environment so,they would either be hunters or fishermen.     Although the climate was below freezing for the Inutis, they used whale blubber to make smokeless heated oil lamps.

    The Inuits climate was below freezing, but they found a way to stay warm by hunting and making clothes.

    The Inuits made many different costumes but it was for religious holidays and traditions only.

  12. 1. The Inuit people did not have tree bark for heat but, they found out a way to make heat by making blubber which is made out of whales.

    2. The Inuit didn't have shelter until, they discovered how to make igloo's and pit houses.

    3. The Inuit had to make their clothing out of feathers and whale skin because their climate was a frozen tundra.

    2.For food they fished and at the fish raw or cooked.
    3.To keep their igloos warm they used whale blubber and put it on a flameless oil lamp that heated the igloos so that they could keep warm in the winter time.

  23. The Inuits had to use blubber for warmth because they weren't able to make fire. The people weren't able to farm because of cold weather, but they were able to hunt animals. They also eat raw fish because they need to have enough minerals and vitamans.

  31. 1) The Inuit people did not have many resources that were provided by the places they lived, so seals and whales provide blubber that was used for smokeless oil lamps.

    2) The Inuit people's most common shelter were igloos although they also had shelters called pit houses.

    3) Cliff Dwellers lived on the side of moutains with more than 175 apartments because moutains sides were 1 of few places where they could have a civilization can built settlements.
