Assignment: Please answer the following questions from The House on Mango Street:
1. In the vignette, "Family of Little Feet" - what is Cisneros warning the reader about? What are some examples of foreshadowing used by her?
2. Keeping with the the theme from the aforementioned vignette, please give an example of something in your life with a similar theme. Please be as descriptive as possible. Did you feel similar to how the girls felt at the end of their day?
3. In the vignette, "Rice Sandwich" - what lesson did Esperanza learn? Be specific and use details from the story.
4. Once again, please share an example a similar theme from your own life. Why do you think you were disappointed?
THIS IS DUE WEDNESDAY MORNING 7:30 AM
1. Sandra Cisneros is warning the reader to not always worry about how you look. She did this by making a bum ask Rachel for a kiss, even though it was just because she was wearing those shoes and looking more mature. She used the bum to foreshadow the first job, and the man asking for a birthday kiss.
ReplyDelete2. To be honest, I don't think something like that has happened to me, because one, I'm not a high-heels wearing girl and two, I don't contemplate on whether or not I should kiss a hobo for a dollar. But the girls did learn to not always look like a superstar.
3. In "Rice Sandwich", Esperanza learned that you should be happy with what you have. For example, after she begged for weeks to go to the canteen, she goes to it and she has a greasy sandwich and gets laughed at. She ended u crying and she was sorta scolded by the principal.
4. For this one, something like this HAS happened to me. Last year, I started hanging out with the likes of Adriana and Sabatina (no offense to whats about to be typed) because I didn't like my friends for some reason that month XD. At first I thought it would be cool, but then I realized it wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and it was kind of boring to be honest.
1. In the vignette, "Family of Little Feet", Esperanza and her sisters learn to act like themselves. Also just like Felice said Sandra used the bum to foreshadow what happened at her first job.
ReplyDelete2. Nothing like this has ever happened to me cause i don't dress that fancy and don't do what others do.
3. In the vignette, "Rice Sandwich", Esperanza learned that what she has is good enough. She went past her limits in life. She went to the canteen with a greasy sandwich. That kinda shows that she is a poor person.
4. Nothing like this has ever happened to me cause i'm not an idiot to try to go beyond my limits. I'll just stay with my Indian homeboys.
Oh yea and Felice that is so offensive to them peoples u were talking about.
Sandra Cisneros warned the reader that you shuould be satisfied with what you were born with as your body and try to someone you arent. Some examples of forehadowing was that the Bum man wanted a kiss for a dollar and in " The First Job" there was a man who said that it was his birthday and that if Esperanza could give her a kiss. Mr.V you also said that there would be more foreshadowing with the same theme.
ReplyDeleteAn example of my life with this theme was when I first got a video game station and I felt cool or something like that because of how popular the video game systems were. Then when my parents threw it out I complained but Esperanza nad her sister didnt complain.
The lessons that Esperanza learned in the vignette " A Rice Sandwich" was to not try to face the principal especially if she hasnt gotten introuble often. She also learned that you should be proud of what you have .
This hasnt really happened to me that I remember of because I'm actually of what I have. Sometimes I dont want something that others have but then I notice that I dont need because it will get out of popularity.
1. I think Sandra Cisneros is warning the reader that there are people out there that will take advantage of you. She used what happened between Rachel and the bum to foreshadow what was going to happen to Esperanza at her first day at her job.
ReplyDelete2. Nothing like this ever happened to me. I don't think a bum man ever asked me to kiss him for a dollar. If that did happened, I would have kicked him.
3. In the vignette, "A Rice Sandwich," Esperanza learned that she shouldn't make something such a big deal and anticipate something to go exactly the way she thinks it will because there is a very small chance of it happening that way. If you hype something up so much and then things don't go the way you expected it to, than you will most likely be very upset.
4. This didn't happen directly to me but to other people. These people were making a big deal of this new game and it turned out to be pretty bad. Everyone got upset. That is why they shouldn't have made it a big deal in the first place.

1.In the vignette, "Family of Little Feet", the girl learn to be them self. The bum wanted to give Rachel a kiss for a dollar and this is foreshadow because Esperanza gets a kiss in her job.
ReplyDelete2.This will never happen to me because Im not a girl but if it did happen it will be over for that bum.
3.Esperanza learned to be happy with what u have. In the vignette, "Rice Sandwich" Esperanza want to sit at the canteen and she was sent to the principal office and she was crying and was to sit their for that day only.
4.This happened to me because i was hearing so much about the PS3 so i brought it and till this day its just sitting in my living room and i regret buying it because it was a waste of money -__-.

In my opinion I the warning was that somerhing might feelngood and look good but u wont always get the attention you expect. When the girls were wearing the lemon shoes people were giving them special attention which made them feel good. A time when I have experienced that was when my mother and I purchased a shirt and I wanted to wear it to school the next day. When I got to school I was getting alot of attention from my friends. However, it wasn't the attention I wanted. People told me that the shirt I was wearing loked femine and I should take it off. In the vignette A Rice Sandwich Esperanza wanted to eat in the cantien with the regular kids. When she got to the cantien she got introuble by the teacher becauase she wasnt supposed to be there. In addition, the kids were also looking at her because she wasnt supposed to be there. Esperanza didn't even have a good time eating in the cantien. I time when i had that feeling was when I was going to a party and I thought it would be the best one ever. I asked my parens to take me to the party and when I got there there was no music and nobody was dancing. It turned out to be the worst party ever.

1.In the vignette, "Family of Little Feet", I think Sandra Cisneros was trying to tell her readers that you should watch out of people who try to take advantage of you. They can harm you in many ways. The bum who asked Rachel for a kiss, also related to when Esperanza's first day at her job.
ReplyDelete2. Something like this has happened, not to me but my friend. She was walking one day and man stopped her. She told me she ran away and had gone straight home to tell her mother.
3. In the vignette, "A Rice Sandwich", Sandra Cisneros talks about how Esperanza wants to go to the canteen. Ezperanza begged her mother for a note to go to the canteen, and she was very disspointed afterward. She should have been happy with going home instead of getting her hopes up on something that would not turn out right.
4. Something like this happened to me once, when I was really exicted to go shopping at this huge mall, then when I got there, I stayed for hours and found nothing. I was dissapointed and upset for getting my hopes up for nothing.

1.In the vignette "Little Feet" Cisneros is warning the reader what always seems to be good isnt all that great only from what is seen on the outside just like candy. Also, you dont need to dress a certain way in order to have pride. This inccident resulted to foreshadowing when a bumm approached her in a negative way askng for a kiss because of how she looked.
ReplyDelete2.There was a time in my life where i wanted to try something new that seemed excitng cause my friends were doing it.I drove on a bus to Fordham in the Bronx just to get to this party. Eerything was going great,i was looking great, feeling great...until i got there and saw some stuff that wasnt very pleasing. At that moment i felt ike that sistuation was meaningless and a waste ofmy time. That made me realize i rather stay me and not follow behind others footsteps.
3.In the vignette "Rice Sandwich" Esperanza learned its better to be grateful and thankful for whats giving to you because when you look to see what others have and rush into things, theres no difference in what u see being sooooo big and wating for....but when you reach that moment its like your sinking on the inside. So often people gass up sistuations, but in reality its really nothing.
