  1. In chapters five and six I learned that Jonas's family and all of the other familys in his community are really close and have respect for each other. I also learned that Jonas is going through sterrings which is when 12s have dreams about things they never thought of before when they were 7s,8s or even 5s. Also Jonas's father gets to keep baby Gabriel in the house but everyone in the family has to sign a document stating that they will not be connected to the baby while he lives with them.

  2. In chapter 6 I learned that the father asked the commitee to keep Gabriel in the nuturing center another year because he wasn't the right size and weight that most newborns were. So gabriel is staying with Jonas'and his family unit, and every one including lily had to sign a contract saying they would not become attached to Gabriel. Gabriel could have been released. When you became a number seven you got a front button jacket and it symbolised independence.when you you became a number 9 you got your first bike and that symbolizes that you are moving away from your family unit and also, becoming more independent.

  3. in chapter 6 i learned that when i child dies in the community, every one murmurs that child's name for the whole day. the next time that specific parent is assigned a new child, that child's name will be the SAME name as the child that passed away and continue their lives as if that child had never died. this community really scares the living crap out of me. They dont even know what animals are! The children wash the elderly. another thing i learned is that ashers parents took a while to get another child since they had so much trouble with asher. who knows what will happen next!

  6. Today in class i learned in chapter 6 that Jonas' family couldn't keep Gabriel since they have decided that Gabe was going to be neutured for another year which is rare to the community. The whole family had to sign a document stating they will not be attached in any way to Gabriel. Also it mentioned that when you turn into a seven you get a front button jacket which symbolises independence. Also in the chapter it mentioned that Caleb, who was a four at the time had been wandering by himself and had drowned in a lake.At the ceremony Caleb's parents had recieved another child named Caleb as a replacement.

  7. I learned that children that died could be replaced by another new born baby. A four year old wondered away without anybody noticing and drowned in the river. The community replaced the kid with another baby and naming it the same name. I also learned today that Gabriel, the new born baby had to stay in the neuturing for another year. The community said that he was not the right weight and size.Gabriel needed to stay with Jonas's family unit. His family needed to sign documents saying that they will not be attached to gabriel. Also I learned that when you are seven you get a front button jacket which symbolys independenc and when you are a nine you get your first bike which shows that your are moving away from your protective unit family and being more independent.

  8. i learned in chapter 6 that they have special ceremonies where you name a child or if a child dies of the communitie they have a ceremonie for that. Also that if ur child does die you have a replacement child and you name them the same name as that other child. I find that to be odd but thats my opinion. The people in this book and in the communitie i dont think feel the same way as we do about the replacement child. but anyway i also learned that the father was able to keep the baby but made the kids sign a document saying not to get to attached.

  9. I learned in chapter 6 that when someone had passed away they have to murmur that person's name for the entire day, and when the day had ended they would never say the name again. Also the community had decided to keep Gabriel until next year because Gabriel is to "premature" and has to develop more.

  10. In chapter 6 of The Giver,I learned many things about Jonas' community. One thing I learned is that the people at the community are very cautious about the kids.Unfortunately, they did not see Caleb, a baby, who was wandering around and ended up dieing by falling into a lake. When a baby dies the community murmurs the child's name for a while.I also learned that Caleb's parents had a ceremony in receiving a new child and they named it Caleb.

  11. In both chapters... i learned that the community that jonas lives in are very unusual in many cases. One reason how it was very unusual was when a family's baby died and the Elders set up a type on reincarnation for it. The baby's name was caleb 4 years old. When a bay dies its very rare because the community is so safe , but when that happens a substitution baby is given to that family in witch is named Caleb. Another thing that i learned was that father got to keep gabriel because of it's size and wait. So as they're keeping "it" everyone in the house had to sign a contract stating that no one is to get attached to the baby including Lilly!!! And lastly i learned that when u become a 7 u get a front button jacket and that means independence.

  14. In chapeter six I learned that a families little boy named Caleb drowned and died in a lake because he walked away from home without anyone noticing. In honor of Caleb's memory the community joined together and said his name repeatively for a whole 24 hours. At the end of his ceremony the community was never to mention or speak of Caleb ever again. Then a few years later the leaders of the community decided to give the family a new Caleb.

  15. In Chapter 6 The Giver I learned that the community let Jonas's family keep Gabriel for another year. They had to sing a contract saying that they will not be attached to Gabriel when they come and pick him up.When your a seven you get a front botton jacket. It's showing your independence.I also learned that a little boy died by falling into the river. The little boy's name was Cabel. Cabel's parents received a new child and they named him Cabel.I think it was wrong for the parents to name him Cabel because they are thinking that the real Cabel has come back. But the real Cabel and this new Cabel are two different people.I like this book because it's very intresting you learn something new in each chapter.

  17. In chapter 6 what I have learned from Joan's community is, if a child dies, nobody should never ever speak of their name again. You have to think like it never happened. If you do talk about the missing child you will be released from the town cause thats a law. This particular baby Gabriel was given a second chance. The people got a baby an named it Gabriel and gave the baby to the family who lost their first child.

  21. I learned that Jonas community has cerimonies when someone is being givin away to a family, when someone has died, and when a child turns a certain age. I also learned that when a young child has died it will be replaced by another baby. I also learned that Jonas's family including Lily, had to sign a contract that stated they can not get attached to the new baby. Also that when you turn 7 you get a jacket that butons in the front because when your like 3 your buton is on the back of your jacket. Another thing is that Jonas's friends parents had to wait like five years until they can get another child because their son is a handful.

In Lily and Jonas' recent ceremony something special happened.Their was this one couple who had a young 4 year old boy and this little child wondered while the couple did not notice he accidentally fell in a lake, past away. So in his memory they gave them a new baby boy that was to them, Caleb was back . While this happened Jonas noticed that Gabriel was not there. Gabriel was not to attend till next year. So for the time being Jonas' family has full custody of him except they all have to sign this document that stated they may not become attached to young Gabe.

  27. Just as the family practices a telling of feelings at night they tell their dreams in the morning. Jonas usually does not have a dream to tell, but this morning he had dreamed that he was in the steamy bathing room at the House of the Old trying to convince his friend Fiona to take off her clothes and allow him to give her a bath. He remembers feeling a strong “wanting.” After sending his sister off to school Jonas’s mother tells him that the feelings he is having are his first Stirrings something that happens to everyone when they get to be Jonas’s age. She gives him a small pill as treatment and reminds him to take his pill every morning had a dream.
