  1. 1. The setting takes place in the future in some kind of robotic and strange world.

    2. I think that Jonas is a strong, intelligent and brave boy trying to get the feel of many different things.
3.I think that the language takes out the words that give meaningful emotions or color.
    4. I think he feels apprehensive because he has the ceremony of the 12.

P.S. I have read this book twice!

  2. 1. The setting of The Giver takes place in a futuristic community where they have certain restrictions on family units and other futuristic processes.

    2. I assume that Jonas (the protagonist) is a troubled 11 year old that is restricted to no choices and no feelings and try to have a sensation of having feelings.(His family unit and probably others also had trouble on experiencing certain feelings because of there robotic-like mannerisms and actions. Thats why Jonas's family talk about their emotions and feelings every night).

    3. The family's unique use of language is a obvious form of English. Their language is almost like it's origin was a language module or something. Their way of language is like a robot, android, a machine.

    4. Jonas (the protagonist) felt apprehensive because of the upcoming Ceremony of the 12 (12th birthday. He used to be a 11 (11 years old) Now it was nearing December (his birthday was nearing) he felt very anxious.

  3. 1.) The setting of "The Giver", is in a percise community in a futuristic soceity. Jonas lives in a community that is very orginized and regulated so nothing unexpected can happen. The people in the community are not very spontanieous and they need things to be on a certain track.

2.) In "The Giver" the protagonist of the story is Jonas. Jonas is a(n) 11 year old that lives in a society which is very percise and that has many rules to follow. He is "apprehesive" because December is *gradually* coming and his ceromomny of becoming 12 is near.

3.) The use of language by the characters in the story are very etiqutte. They have a lot of manners toward everyone and everything. They are very descriptive and and use the proper words for what they are feeling. They don't use slang or any other use of inproper words. When their talking and they incorrectly use a word in their sentence they would have to change it to make it sound correct.

4.) Jonas is feeling "apprehensive" because his 12 birthday is coming and the town is having a ceromony for him becoming 12 which is a very important thing. He's getting more nervous beacuse Decenber is *gradually* coming and he is nervous on what's going to happen at te ceromomy.

  5. 1. The setting of "The Giver", is in a futuristic soceity. Jonas lives in a community that is very orginized so nothing out of the ordinary can happen. The people in the community are very bland.

2.) In "The Giver" the protagonist of the story is Jonas. Jonas is an 11 year old boy. He is "exited" because December is coming and his ceromomny of 12 is almost there.

3.) The use of language by the characters in the story are very fancy. They are very proper when it comes to vocabulary. When their talking  they need to  always be etiquite

4.) Jonas is feeling "apprehensive" because his 12th birthday is approaching. He's getting more nervous beacuse December is coming and he is nervous because there is going to be a ceremony called the ceremony of 12.

  6. 1) The setting of The Giver takes place in a futuristic community where they have certain limits on family units and other futuristic concept. Jonas lives in a community that is very organized and sophisticated. The people in the community are not very casual and they need things to be on a specific track to be able to live their lives. There aren’t any unexpected things because of the particular rules in the community.
    2) The protagonist, Jonas, is an 11 year old that is contained to no feelings and no choices. His family unit and others also have trouble understanding their actions because of their future-like-characteristics. That’s why Jonas's family talks about their emotions and feelings every night, they want to be able to express themselves in a way that they can try to understand each other. He lives in a society which has many rules to follow.
    3) The use of language by the characters in the story is very fancy. They use a lot of manners toward everyone and everything. They are very proper when it comes to speaking. The use of language by the characters in the story is very etiquette and they use advanced vocabulary. They are very descriptive and use the right words when they talk. These family units are very different then family’s now.
    4) In chapter 1, Jonas felt apprehensive because of the upcoming “Ceremony of the 12” a.k.a his 12 birthday. Now it was nearing December and he is feeling very anxious. To the community this ceremony is very important thing for all eleven year olds turning twelve.

  7. 1) The setting of the book "The Giver" is in a futuristic community. There are rules that everyone in this community must follow. Everything is very proper, organized, and completely different from what we do today.

    2) The protagonist of "The Giver" is called Jonas. He is a "apprehensive" young eleven year old and is nervous of the coming of December when he finally turns twelve.

3)The language of the characters in the novel is very elegant. I guarantee that all of the characters that we cover in this book will have a strong and unique vocabulary. Even the youngest in Jonas's family, Lily, has a greater and proper way of saying then me.

    4) Jonas is feeling "apprehensive" in chapter 1 because the Ceremony of 12 is right around the corner. He is feeling nervous for his twelfth birthday and it is a very important day.

  8. 1) The Giver takes place in an "ideal" society, where everything is portrayed as perfect, with everything in proportion. Its seems as though their lives are all scripted and laid out for them already. Their world, and communities make up an everlasting play. These people know nothing apart from routine. I find this setting unsettling but intriguing.

    2) Jonas, the protagonist of the novel, seemed to blend in with society from the first chapter. Jonas is feeling almost anxious for an upcoming event, The Ceremony of Twelve. Jonas comes off as a regular boy stuck in a utopian world with stage fright, in chapter one. He is dealing with his nerves, or at least trying to, and preparing himself.

    3) The language used in the society seems as though it is empty. It is as if the words and actions were scripted for the people. Of course there is some feeling, seeing they are still human. I find it to be a little too perfect and there needs to be more freedom.

    4) Jonas is feeling apprehensive in chapter one, sue to the upcoming event named The Ceremony of Twelve. He is turning twelve years old, which seems to be getting the best of him. Jonas is nervous and he is doing his best to just bare with it until the time comes in December.

  9. 1) "The Giver" takes place in a futuristic community. It is a very organized community, and there are many restrictions and laws that differ from what today's society displays.

    2) Jonas, the protagonist, is an 11 year old boy. I think his enviroment is a bit overwhelming, and he is troubled a bit by this. Being surrounded by these cirsumstances, it makes him become worried about the "Ceromony of 12."

    3) I think the use of language in this novel is very descriptive. It is very proper and to the point. The choice of words are quite unique to modern day.

    4) Jonas is feeling apprehensive because of "The Ceremony of Twelve." He is going to be turning 12 in December, which as I assume must be very significant to him. He is anxious and worried about becoming twelve.

  10. 1. The Giver take the setting of an advance commutity where eveny thing is the same. Everything is the predictable and plain. The Elders run the community, the make sure that everything is "normal". Everyone has the same birthday, nothing ever changes.

    2. Jonas, is nineteen-eleven, turning twelve. He is the protagonist of the story. Unlike many of the community members, he has light eyes. When he turned twelve, he was selected to be the Recieve. He recieved this job for have integry, and courage.

    3. The language they use in the book is almost robotic. The rule restricts them for asking an sort of question, it was found as rude.

    4. The reason Jonas felt apprehensive is because the Ceremony of Twelve. The Ceremony of Twelve is the final ceremony where the Elders assign you to your permanment job.

  11. 1.I would describe the setting of the giver as a future like society. They have a bunch of rules u have to follow and when a new kid comes and doesn't pay attention to the rules people think he is weird.

    2. Jonas the protagonist of the book the Giver seems to be like everyone there.

    3. The way i would describe the use of language by the characters in the giver is that its empty and like Asher language is really messed up. Everyone else language is excellent so that is why Asher language is different from everybody else.

    4. The protagonist (Jonas) is feeling really bad in chapter one because he is turning twelve. he is nervous and hes trying to stay like that until December.

  12. 1) The setting I would describe is maybe a society in a military base since they said a pilot accidentally went the wrong way. They also call families units, and they release children.
    2) Jonas is an Elven year old kid living wit his family including his mother father and sister. Jonas is the Protagonist in the story.
    3) I would say that the language is kinda like the people are possessed. They live in a very proper society and if they do something wrong they must always explain themselves. Its kind of creepy. Like when all the students said "we accept your apology Asher."
4)Jonas is feeling apprehensive because of the Ceremony Of Twelve. Basically its when you have your birthday. Instead of everyone having a different birthday they all have it on the Ceremony of.. whatever they will turn. Its kind of like Chinese New Year.

  13. 1. The setting of "The Giver" is new, advanced, futuristic community. There are many rules and laws that take place in that time that you must obey.

    2. Jonas, the protagonist, is an eleven year old boy. Ever since he was a young boy he's been going through. He started off as a one, and made his way up to an eleven. His birthday is in December which is when the "Twelve Ceromony will begin.

    3. I think the lanauge used in "The Giver" is very descriptive and explains exactly what is going on during the story. I think some of the rules they have relate to their language.

    4. Jonas is a bit apprehensive about The Ceromony of Twelve because it's an important part of his lifetime. He's nervous about this event, but after it's over I think he will feel like everything was taken off of his shoulders.

    2. The protagonist Jonas is a 11 year old boy who is very joyful. He is excited about his soon coming ceremony of 12.

    3. The use of launguage in the book by the characters is very consurvitive. They have laot of manners and are polite.

    4. The protagonist is feelin apprehensive because his ceremony of 12 is oming very soon and he is excited.
