  17. The Black History Month Assembly was very engrossing and had foreign Language. In the Black History Month Assembly, I saw and learned African culture (especially dances) I mean look at those moves they did! I was also impressed the rhythmic beats the drummers made. The most important and my favorite part of the assembly was the discussion about how everyone is equal and how Africans experience the world. The main man discussed about how the Africans were treated like property and taken as slaves at the 1500 - 1600s. He also discussed about there language and how each word means something. an thats when The Seven Principles comes in. Umoja means Unity. Kujichagulia is self - determination. Ujima means collective work and responsibility. Ujamaa is cooperative economics. Nia means purpose. Kuumba means creativity and Imani means faith. These words of principles I should say are very important for the people of Africa. It should be important to all of us. Overall the assembly was very interesting. What do you think about Black History Month or The Seven Principles?

  19. The assembly was a great show. I learned lots of things from the assembly. For example, I didn’t know the 7 principles until I went to the assembly. Also, there were words I didn’t comprehend: nia that meant purpose. Nia is a special word because it means purpose. I believe that purpose is when no one will stop someone from what they want to do. Another word that I believe is interesting is Kuumba. This word means for creativity, and I think it means to do art work, to help out a community that has been obliterated. For instance, if there is a community that is poor, a school can associate to paint a mural for the community. My favorite part of the assembly was when the women danced. It was very entertaining and interesting how they danced. Also, when the woman chose the fifth graders to go up to dance with her. When the man was doing his speech it was very interesting.

  20. In the Black History Month assembly on Wednesday February 16, I learned the 7 principles. I learned that we must thank the people who have brought us to this world here today and have been there their whole lives to help us. We should also thank those people who made a difference to this world to make it a better place. These people changed the world to help and improve the future, like today. The two main words from the principles that I remember the most are nia which means purpose and imani which mean faith. For example, just as many people have taught me the 7 principles told the audience what are the meaningful things in life and to enjoy the little thing while they last. The 7 principles could lead me to a successful life. Therefore, my favorite part of the assembly was all the traditional dances. The women seemed to be having fun dancing. Wouldn't you like to be proud to show your culture?

  29. I think that it is great that we can be expressive of the customs in our school. In high school, we are introduced to the customs of various cultures throughout the world. It is important to learn about other customs so that we can appreciate and understand them. In this way, the barriers of racism can be eliminated. I am glad that this tradition is continued at our school. For it when we forget about each others customs so we know how important it is that our beliefs are to each individual in the school. In some classes we get to show are individually in projects. One of the projects was in cooking class. In cooking class we made something that had to do with our
    heritage.

  30. In the assembly i learned that the culture if africab anericans is alot more deep than tought in class. For example, when the man said that civilazation started in africa. They explained how culture is rooted not only on how people look but it is about how they act. To learn about other cultures is not in referance to only black people but to every culture out there. My favorite part was when the people dabced and they brought the audience up on stage. This made the audience feel the cultural signifacance of music in the african cultur. ASHÉ.

  31. In the assembly I learned the culture of African Americans. I learned what the true meaning of there words are and what there culture means to them and how it is so important to them. Like the 7 principles the word "Nia" means purpose, though my favorite one is "Imani" which means faith. What surprised me was that when the man had said slavery started in Africa and how much people was involved. My favorite part of the assembly is when the women started to come out and dance and then I thought one of them was Mrs.Hamilton but I got that one wrong, oops! Overall I thought the assembly was educational but yet entertaining at the same time and I would love to watch it again.

Another thing i learned was that there are 7 principals, Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujaama, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. The people who performed at the assembly were expressing their culture. For instance, their dances and beats were probably rituals like Ashley said. My favorite parts of the assembly was mostly the beats. The thing that confused me was their baggy clothes. Why baggy? Nothin offensive.
