I learned many things about the African culture. I learned about their language and to say some words. For example , I learned how to say ashe or something like that. This meant something like ok or something like that. I also learned what they wear and what their cultural dance. For example, they wore like robes o dresses with jewelry for women. Men wore like some kind of pancho or something like that with pants. Their dance was when they waved their hands ad moved their body. My favorite part was when they made the little kids from Grady dance with them. They little white girl was the one that mostly danced. The assembly was very interesting because I actually learned something.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot about the African culture from the assembly in school. I also learned about the 7 principles. There is Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. My favorite part was when the people were playing there instruments. I learned about the word ashe. The part where the old man kept saying ashe was also one of my favorite parts. I also so the type of clothing they wore. The females wore long tops that cover their whole bodies that are similar to a poncho and the man wore a really long t-shirt that reached his shin. The old man wore a torn up shirt. I think the assembly was very interesting and I learned s lot about Africans. I think this Black History Month assembly was one of the most interesting ones I have seen.

I learned alot during the Black History Month Assembly. I learned about the seven principles which were Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujaama, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. The people on stage demonstrated alot about their culture. For example, they did traditional dances and songs, and did a ritual(I think). They were very open about their culture and had alot of fun performing on stage. I also learned the word ashe which means amen. My favorite part was when the two ladies did their dance. It was alot of fun and they really did a great job. Another part of the performance was when grady kids went up thier. The girls enjoyed it, but the boys were confused and looked like they wanted to go and sit back down. I think this Black History Month Assembly was different than the others, and I learned alot.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot about black culture. One thing i learned after the assembly was that blacks are awesome drummers. Another thing i learned was that there are 7 principals, Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujaama, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. The people who performed at the assembly were expressing their culture. For instance, their dances and beats were probably rituals like Ashley said. My favorite parts of the assembly was mostly the beats. The thing that confused me was their baggy clothes. Why baggy? Nothin offensive.

In the assembly today I learned a lot more about African-American culture and how much we care and celebrate our culture. Black history month is a great way to show our thanks and appreciation to the blacks that sacrificed their lives for freedom. In the assembly we learned the 7 principles, which are Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. Umoja means unity. Ujamaa means cooperative economics. Nia means purpose. Kuumba means creativity. I also learned about the word Ashe that is an important word and it means, “so be it or make it happen”. Ashe is how the different tribes communicated together. My favorite part of the assembly was when the girls were dancing to the beat of the conga drums, and how they wore the clothes that symbolized how Africans dress. The clothes that they wore were very unique. The women wore long colorful shirts like ponchos, and the girls wore black pants. The men wore a white shirt and a colorful cap one their head. I also liked how they let the kids from Grady get up on the stage and dance to the music. I feel the Black history month assembly encouraged people to be thankful for what we have, and appreciate what Africans did for us.
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot in today’s assembly. For example I was not very keen on the fact that blacks were enslaved. I also learned that everyone has a different perpose. For instance the people that performed in the assembly were not there to entertain us. They were there to educate us and that was there purpose. I learned more than just black slaves, I learned about the women and also the Latinos
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot at the assembly about African Americans. For example I learned what kind of instruments they played. I also learned how to say ashe. I also learned about the 7 principles. My favorite part was when the guy was spiting the water in the air and the water look like mist. i learned what the women wore and what the men wore. Their drum beats were amazing and so were the dances. i really like the assembly and this was a good way to show us how African American are like not just slaves.

ReplyDeleteI learned a lot from the assembly. Because I am white, I don't usually learn this stuff (Alana goes to a class and learns this) so I learned about a different way of life. A few times I was actually thinking of the way the Na'vi from Avatar live, with nature and all. My favorite part was when the guy was spitting water into the air. I predicted right as he spit the first time that he would say something about the cardinal directions and Native American culture. And I was right! Another part I liked was when the little kids were dancing. It was funny watching them try to dance. But overall, I thought it was a very informative assembly.

ReplyDeleteIn the assembly I learned about the language others spoke. This assembly was very interesting and what suprised me the most was the dancing. I was thinking that maybe because of them we have our great dances today. For example, we have dances such as, Bachata, Salsa, Hip - hop, Merenge and much more, from many different countries. In conclusion, The African Americans have a great culture that we could all learn about.
