Task: Write an 8-10 sentence critiquing a movie or dvd that you have recently watched. I want you to give me insightful information and thoughtful opinions - NOT a summary of the movie. I'm interested in "hearing" your voice as a writer and at your writing mechanics (spelling, grammar, vocabulary). I've provide an example for you below...
EXAMPLE:
I recently watched "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" on HBO. As this was my second viewing of the film (I saw it in the movie theater last fall), I was giving it a second chance ONLY because I loved the original movie, "Wall Street" so much. After leaving the theater upon viewing the sequel for the first time, I felt cheated and angry at director Oliver Stone for not being more creative with his film. Mr. Stone has made some of the most memorable films of the last 30 years: Platoon, the aforementioned Wall Street, Born on the 4th of July, JFK,- I could go on...so how could he take one of the greatest movie characters of all time (Gordon Gekko) and make him so one dimensional? With that said, I sat down the other night and watched the film again...and you know what? It wasn't as bad as I remember - perhaps my expectations were lower or maybe I was just happy to have 2 hours to myself without changing diapers or watching Thomas The Tank Engine Train with my son. In any event, I suppose the main purpose of this paragraph is to remind you that sometimes you need to give things a second chance. Was this sequel a great movie? No. However, it was definitely worth a look...but if you DO want a great movie, rent the original movie - just watch it with your parents (it's Rated R).
The last movie I watched was called " Let me In" and it is suppose to be a scary movie, but to me it really wasn't. I felt that it was very used and that it was like every other scary movie. When it was suppose to be "a scary part" in the movie I felt nothing. The only thing that was a good outcome from this movie was that I was watching it with my cousins and we got super close watching the movie. So anytime a scary part happened we would just laugh at it, it turned more into a comedy to us. Though I am actually glad that we watched it because it was the best part of my whole night at there house. Also afterword we made brownies and just sat and caught up with each other. So overall I have mixed emotions about the whole night, but if I had to choose it was definitely a memorable moment. It was also great to be away from parents and being in the same house all day. So if anyone watches this movie, I would recommend you watch it with friends or family or you might get really bored.

Excellent paragraph Vani. Strong transitions, clear thesis, and I could hear your voice as I read it. I'm impressed...now if Lil Red could do an assignment I would be VERY impressed. I can hear the excuses already...ha ha

Well done Bianca!! I haven't seen any of the Harry Potter movies, but they sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteJuly 15, 2011 marked the end of an era. The most successful franchise of all time was released a movie for the very last time. Millions of fans, from every corner of the world flocked to theaters to bid their childhood heroes farewell, making Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the third highest grossing film of all time. In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil in the wizarding world escalates into a full blown war. This movie delivers exactly what most viewers were expecting. The battles, suspense, revelations, and the emotionally satisfying conclusion lives up to the the genius of J.K. Rowling's novel. Even though I was not alive when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone first hit bookshelves in 1997, I feel as though I watched Harry, Ron and Hermione grow up right in front of me and I've grown up with them.

The most recent movie I have seen is Shutter Island. It is a thriller/suspense movie based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. I felt that some parts of the movie dragged on a bit and were not that interesting but, the dark and twisted parts are what keep you watching. As soon as you felt that you knew what was going to happen, the plot has a huge twist. The plot starts with Teddy Daniels and his new partner Chuck sailing to a mental hospital. They were there to solve the dissapearance of Rachel Solado. Teddy must find out what is happening on Shutter Island before he falls into his own madness. If I was a movie critic, I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.

The last movie I saw was Walk the Line. The movie was based on the early life and music career of country artist Johnny Cash and how he struggled with drug addiction throughout his career. This is perhaps one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. The performance of the actors was amazing. At some points of the movie when Johnny Cash was performing it seemed as if Joaquin Phoenix was possesed by Mr.Cash himself due to the way he would cock his head to the side or the way he would hold/play his guitar. I will admit that him and Reese Witherspoon(who potrayed June Carter)have great singing voices. After seeing this movie it made me wish I could be able to watch Mr.Cash perform alive. Overall,I would recommend this movie to anyone.

ReplyDeleteThe last movie I saw was Rise of the Planet of the Apes.I watched it at the movie theater's.I was hyped to see it,but when it finished I was expecting more action. When the apes attacked the people I didn't understand because all they wanted was to be free in the jungle. The movie was was a bit crestfallen. While I was watching the movie there were people talking and I was getting agitated.I didn't really enjoy it.I was annoyed because I prodigal my money.Even though there were some misunderstanding there were interesting facts in the movie.Although, I didn't enjoy it I was glad to get out of my house for a while.
ReplyDeleteThe last movie I saw was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. I have been wanting to see it ever since part one. I thought the movie was going to be done a little better though. However I was a little let down when I didn't see the parts I was hoping to see. The movie was exciting in some parts but other times they would just talk and talk. I didn't like the end at all simply because I thought it was a little corny having kill Voldemort then having Harry's children sign up for Hogworts.

A movie that I watched recently was The Proposal on FX. At first I begged my grandma(yes I watch movies with my grandma, since she's the one with DVR) not to make me watch it, but not long after, I was laughing at how their talked-about, hated, Canadian boss blackmailed her worker into marrying her to gain citizenship. Sandra Bullock was a laughing stock to me, and the Alaskan village she was dragged to, since the city girl couldn't last a day without help. Another funny element was Betty White, who played the grandma. She faked a heart attack to get her grandson to the airport to stop his *fiance* from leaving, because he really wanted to get married. I thought that Bullock's character was naive to think there wouldn't be eyebrows raised when she got married to the man no on had heard about. I also didn't get that she was afraid of the tiny dog they had, since most people in the city have small dogs. I would definetly reccomend this movie to anyone who's looking for something funny.
ReplyDeleteA movie i recently watched was Let Me In. It was a very good movie with lots of conflict but i really thought it was not scary at all. I thought it would be more happy then scary. Though I was very disappointed that it was not scary, though I still think it a good movie. What I like is when the main character of that movie resolved his conflict with the help of his friend. I only thought one part was scary when another character was attacked. I also think it is kinda a comedy a little to me to
ReplyDeleteThe movie I have recently seen is House of Wax, a horror film. The house of wax consists of a group of teenagers who have taken the wrong turn in a small town. So far they only know the man who works at the gas station but, what they do not know is he plots murders with his brother. When the first murder happens, the brother makes the dead bodies a wax sculptures at the House of Wax, which is just a museum of wax sculptures. Then two teenagers find out where the brother makes the bodies into statues of wax and find out his face is made out of wax. Then another friend goes the gas station man's house and find out he is the person who tricks his brother into killing them because he says they do not deserve to be perfect. Finally, the last two teens end up trapping the brothers at the House of wax and set it on fire so the wax melts and they stay trapped. The movie was great and was everything I expected a horror movie to be.

ReplyDeleteThe last movie that I have recently seen was Shrek The Final Chapter, on DVD. I laughed so hard that I cried.I love all of the Shrek movies and I was dying to see the 4th one, but my mom rarely takes me to the movies, so I have to wait for the DVDS to come out. Anyway, in this movie he goes on a extraordinary adventure, bigger than his others. There are also many changes in the movie to. Lets go through the basics puss in boots is fat, donkey is a servant, and Shrek is not the king anymore. At the end everything is back to normal and everybody lives happily ever after. What a pathetic ending, why do the good guys always win? To me personally, I think the bad guys should win for once, and then they could make another movie, and this time the good guys could win. To conclude, if you are looking for comedy, this is a movie that you should see.

The movie I recently saw was Green Lantern. This movie is just about another hero saving his planet because he is chosen from the ring that gives power for those who are chosen. There are many creatures of all around the galaxy chosen to protect it. For me this movie was not really exciting. There was just a lot of talking and no action. Plus, for me happy endings are boring because you just see everything get solved and never feel anything. Green Lantern is just another story involving a hero and living happily ever after. I honestly would have chosen any other movie to blog about but, I haven't watched any recently.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people believe that this movie was the best of the trilogy. I am one of those people. Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon was one of the greatest films that anyone could see. Michael Bay puts an end to this epic trilogy on June 23, 2011 and gets 3D technology a boost as 60% of Transformers 3 revenue has come from 3D ticket sales according to The Wrap. In the finale, the Decepticons come back for revenge and try to take over humanity once again, but this time they have new technology called pillars that bring back Transformers home planet Cybertron. Obviously the Autobots and saty in planet Earth and continue protecting them. Overall the movie was a great hit and I would totally recommend this to everyone in 3D.
